Welcome to Kak’s Shanti

IMG_3132

Welcome! I am Katherine, mostly known as Kak, a lingering nickname from school which I choose to embrace for its uniqueness.

I am a hatha yoga teacher but more importantly, I am a human being on a path I love and love to share.

Years ago, yoga gently lifted me from a deep, dark place and solidified my belief in its power forever. Since then I continue to learn aspects of this practice which invariably resonate with me in every way.

Because of an unusually international upbringing I was exposed to many languages and cultures early on. Perhaps this allowed me to be just that much more open-minded towards yogic ideas, once I became familiar with them. My mum, also, gets due credit for raising my sister and myself to be open to extraordinary concepts.

On my first day at yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, our teacher, Roshan told us not to believe what he taught us but he then told us not to reject what he taught us. He told us to contemplate what he taught us. Later I understood that this was because we were being encouraged to use our own ability to distinguish between true and false as per our perception; our hearts are naturally equipped with discernment and all we have to do is learn to listen! Let that also be my first message.

Since my training in India I have found yoga to have literally exploded in popularity in the West. Although yoga seems to be widely misconstrued in the West and perceived as strictly a fitness tool, my Indian teachers feel that practicing asana in any way, shape or form may increase the odds of a desire for a deeper understanding and therefore do not feel offended by western yoga’s current trendiness.

It is not important to be right or wrong if the intention is genuine. If I can help just a few people find ease and peace of mind, joy and love then all our lives will improve! That is why I’m here, writing this right now.

I hope you will spend some time here with me.

Namaste,

kak

Hi Kak, thank you for giving me access to your blog. I like your introduction about yourself and your yoga teachers advice is so “right” to my mind! Your observations about yoga in the current time in the west so true. Wise words, beautifully written. I look forward to reading more of your thoughts and actions in pursuit of a simple mindful life. And thank you for the bread info!

      Hi Susan,
Well thank YOU! I am enjoying this very much, though still just learning and playing with it. I love to write and I have lots of ideas so it seems an ideal venue. I’m glad you like it!
I look forward to getting together to play with food and yoga soon!

KAK, I SAW YOUR COMMENTS ON HENRI’S ACADEMY. YOUR SITE LOOKS GREAT. I AM TRYING TO LEARN WORD PRESS AND IT IS A STRUGGLE.

SEE MY SITE WRITELIFEPRO.COM AND DONBROWNING.COM
WHERE DID YOU LEARN WP AND HOW DID YOU LEARN?

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR VENTURES. YOU ARE ON AN EXCELLENT PATH.

I WILL GIVE YOU A COMMENT OVER AT THE ACADEMY.
BELOW IT SAYS I AM USING MY WORD PRESS ACCOUNT. IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIGURE OUT ALL THE IN’S AND OUT’S. MARIONEDC.COM IS A SITE I HAVE USED IN THE PAST. NOT SURE HOW IT COMES UP IN THIS NOTE. THAT IS THE KIND OF PROBLEM I HAVE USING WORD PRESS.

    BEST, DON

Don, so sorry this has taken so long but, like you, I am just learning and trial and error has been my method of education! I enjoyed the Academy so much while I had the time. Henry is very helpful. I will try your sites. Best to you and thanks for your “like”!
